Meet Blair, the fashionable blogger behind Atlantic-Pacific. Each time I visit her blog, I go green with envy over her fabulous clothes and accessories. She doesn’t include much text in her posts, but turns out this San Fransico lady is a charmer! Get to know her better in this Blogger Spotlight which gives you a peak into her life and what she thinks about the blogging world. Enjoy!
What do you do for a living? Is it your dream job?
I am a merchandiser at a major retailer here in the US. I specifically merchandise dresses and outerwear right now and love it! Most people ask ‘what is merchandising’ and the easiest way to quickly explain it is: I am similar to a buyer but work more closely with design. It is a dream come true to be doing this and I feel so lucky to have fashion and retail as such a big part of my life.
You own some fabulous accessories, how important are these to your outfit?
I love to accessorize and am probably guilty of over accessorizing (but hey there are worse things in life right?). I love statement jewelry as well as shoes! I feel slightly naked if I leave the house without a couple pounds of accessories on.
Are you a budget or designer girl?
I am a budget girl, but believe that on a budget you can find affordable designer goods if you look hard enough. I love mixing low end and high end goods to get a truly eclectic look. I have to say some of my favorite pieces were bought for less than $30 at places like Forever 21, H&M and Zara!
Describe your style.
All over the place. I embrace a lot of different trends, which leads me to not have a specific identity.
What’s your favorite item in your closet?
You realize how unfair this question is right? If I had to choose I would most likely say my black Chanel bag… classic, versatile and something I will most likely still own when I have too many wrinkles to count.
You live in San Francisco, is that a place where you can go all out fashion-wise?
San Francisco is not as ‘in your face’ fashion as places such as NYC, but I have found some of the most trendy, fabulous people live in this city. I don’t think you have to live in a place that is fashionable to be fashionable. Dress the way you choose to express yourself no matter where you live.
Tell us a bit more about what’s it like living there.
I am actually an East Coast girl. I moved out to San Francisco three years ago directly after college for my merchandising career. San Francisco has some of the best food and interesting neighborhoods to explore. I also love that on the weekends there are so many trips at your disposal- Napa, Tahoe, Monterey. I would say I have fallen in love with San Francisco, with my only gripe being that I miss a true summer (and the tan that goes with that).
How does a typical day in your life look like?
In a typical day I wake up 20 minutes later than I am supposed to, scramble to get on the bus and get to work just in the nick of time (I also usually spill or break something in this time period). From there I get to work with design on building a line, work with my financial counterparts to read how product in the stores is performing and talk with my cross functional teams about future strategies to grow the business. Once that is all done I rush to get a blog post done before the sun goes down and head home to clean up my closet I ripped apart that morning. If I am lucky I will get to hang out with my boyfriend and read or do a crossword puzzle. Phew. To be completely honest every day at work is different, which is why there is no typical day and also why I love my job. On the weekends I am a fly by the seat of your pants person. My work week life is planned down to the minute, so on the weekends the less plans the better.
Why did you start blogging? What have been some cool responses so far?
I started blogging because my boyfriend suggested it. I loved visiting other blogs and he thought that I would enjoy the blogosphere that much more if I actually participated myself. He has been such an important part in making the site possible.
It has been really cool to make connections with bloggers across the world. It has also been so fun to get back in touch with past friends who have stumbled upon it. I have moved around a lot over my lifetime and it is incredible to have those I haven’t talked to in ten years say they found my blog and read it every day. The coolest response of all though is how much my mom loves and appreciates my blog from 3,000 miles away (Hi Mom!).
How important is blogging in your life?
Blogging is my hobby, and like almost all other hobbies is my release. I love it and without it would not be the same.
Is there a reason why you don’t add much text to your posts?
Well I guess for starters I don’t find myself all that interesting haha, but outside of that I want the focus of my blog to be on my personal style. I think it is great if you choose to be a blogger who also shares personal information, interpretation of your outfits, and inspiration but I choose to let my photos do the talking. I have considered adding more text, but always find myself liking the simplicity of Atlantic-Pacific…but trust me if I was more hilarious or inspiring you better believe you would get an ear full.
What are your plans for the future job-wise and blog-wise?
My blog will continue to evolve as the blogging world and fashion world evolve, but no big plans here. In terms of my career, I am quite happy where I am but do foresee going back to the East Coast someday, which could involve a company but not career change. I have always believed that to be the best version of yourself possible you have to seek challenging opportunities and continue to learn in all areas in life. That is what I plan on doing :).
Last but not least, what are your favorite blogs to read?
My favorite blog currently is the Glamourai, could she be more fabulous? I also enjoy reading fellow SF bloggers such as Song of Style, Late Afternoon, and Jennie Going West. Lastly, my favorite blogs to read are those of the bloggers who also read and follow my blog- I feel such a connection with them and they are all so sweet!
Thanks to Blair for participating! And happy Thanksgiving to the Americans!
