The tropical setting of the Philippines seems far away already, but the awesome memories are still on my mind. In good fashion, I’m already plotting my next getaway to an Asian destination – which is always fun to look forward to! During our last couple of days we stayed in Dumaguete (mainly because of practical reasons based on our previous itinerary and because we wanted to visit Apo island). This destination won’t pop up as the number one thing you have to visit in the Philippines, but after spending a couple of days here and exploring the surroundings, we quickly noticed Dumaguete has a lot to offer as well. A beautiful lake and natural surroundings all to your lonesome self? Check. Those picturesque palm tree and ricefield views wherever you go? Check. Easy access to visit Apo island? Yup. There’s lots to see and do here, and a visit to the well-known Malatapay market is certainly one of them. This local livestock market takes place every Wednesday, and we happened to stay right next to it. We browsed around the different stalls, striking up conversation with the friendly locals and buying some souvenirs for back home. The heat was not to be messed with that day, but nothing a refreshing coconut couldn’t fix.  When we went back later in the evening, I made the cutest little friend too.
