One of the things I love doing on the weekends is being a tourist in my own country – not the super cheesy kind, but more the “appreciate-your-own-surroundings” kind. Even though I try to make an effort to do this as much as possible, it still doesn’t feel as often enough (the Olsens were definitely right with their “so little time, so much to do”-theme song). In any case, we did succeed to get the most out of last Sunday! The weather forecast predicted plenty of sun, which was ideal for a nice fall walk which I had planned with some friends at ‘Mechels Broek’. In fact, it turned out to be way too hot for three layers of clothing – not that we were complaining about that! After exploring the surroundings, enjoying nature and the sunny weather, we worked up quite the appetite so we headed over to Mechelen for lunch. This city has a couple of nice places for food – and I was happy to finally try out Foom, a cute breakfast/lunch spot right by the cathedral (what a view!). The sandwiches were a nice start (and quickly devoured by all), but I’ve especially been dreaming about the “banoffee” cake I had afterwards. I’m planning to do a hotspot post about Foom soon, so more about that piece of heavenly cake later. After lunch, we walked around Mechelen a little more and closed the day at famous burger spot Il Cardinale. Let’s just say that the word food coma was very appropriate at the end of the day.
Oh, and since I’ve only been talking about food so far – this bomber jacket is one of the awesome pieces I scored during our famous annual work sale where every piece is only 5 (!) Euros (see one of the things I scored last year here, might have gone a bit more crazy this time). It’s a little on the oversized side, but I really don’t mind – the print adds just the right amount of feminine touch for me!
