8AM: An early wake-up call and some stressful moments at airport security later, I arrive just in time at the gate for boarding. Time to leave the stress behind and let the fun begin – I’m off to beautiful and sunny Madrid for the presentation of the C&A SS17 collection! With the prediction of blue skies and temperatures up to 26 degrees over there, I’m sure I’ll have no problem imagining myself wearing spring and summer clothes again.
11AM: After a short and smooth flight, we arrive at our beautiful hotel Vincci The Mint, located right on Gran Via – talk about a convenient location for exploring! First things first, though. We all need a coffee and croissant by now, and a refreshment with that lovely rain shower isn’t sounding too bad either.
2PM: Time for lunch and our first quick stroll in Madrid. Gran Via is obviously beautiful and busy (I don’t think it’s ever quiet around here), but the streets behind our hotel prove to be much calmer – and very hipsterproof! There’s a lot of cute shops and fun places to eat, like the food market Mercado San Anton. When we get back to the hotel to get ready, we also discover our hotel has a rooftop area. Picture moment for later: check! It’s about 30 degrees up here, which makes it really easy to conjure up the summer mood for the event that night.
4.30PM: Off to the event that is being held in the beautiful Palacio de Cristal de la Arganzuela. In here, we get a full presentation and tour of the C&A SS17 collection by all the designers. I’m spotting a lot of items I really like, such as printed kimono jackets, light parkas, a pink velvet dress and a stunning striped A-line skirt. Truth is, I want to put as much as I can in my colorful beach tote – but I guess that will be frowned upon.
6PM: Instead I decide to stick to eating all the snacks, posing in front of this gorgeous floral wall, admiring the wicker baskets, and making stops at the flower shop. There are beautiful bouquets here for the taking, and being the crazy flower lady that I am – I can’t resist doing so. In case you’re wondering: yes, my bouquet made it all the way back to Belgium with me.
8PM: Time for dinner at one of Madrid’s hottest spots, Perrachica! I love that name, it provokes this urge in me to shout it out loud and really let the R roll doing so. Anyway, we were quite literally overloaded with more food here than the human body can handle and the setting was really pretty too. This place also turns into a sort of club later at night, but to be honest I didn’t last long enough to see that fully happen (my comfy hotel bed was calling my name).
2PM, the day after: Spoiler alert – I stayed a little longer than 24 hours. C&A offered the opportunity to stay until Sunday night, which is exactly what I did! I had three full days of exploring Madrid ahead, and was very excited about that. Most of our group was going back to Belgium later that night, so I grabbed some coffee and carrot cake with Astrid at Café Federal to say goodbye – and went off exploring on my own afterwards.
7PM, Sunday night: Time to head back home! My stay in Madrid was absolutely wonderful, and I managed to cover a really big part of the city. But of course, a full report of that will follow later – stay tuned.
For this trip, I carried the Nikon 1 J5 all over Madrid. It’s a light, compact system camera that easily fits in my purse and still delivers quality images. I’m not always motivated to carry my heavier DSLR with me, so this is a perfect blogger alternative!
